Single posterior tooth restoration

Typical case of a failed lower molar. Filling, new filling, crack, endo, crown, re-endo, bucket
At first surgery. Implant placed with minimal flap and healing abutment
Post insertion radiograph. Remember, longer is not better. It's the surface area of the implant that's important. A 5 x 8mm implant will carry any tooth in the mouth
After an appropriate healing period ....
Remove the healing abutment using tungsten-tipped forceps. No local anaesthesia.
A view of the healed gingival cuff and the implant well. The implant-head impression can be taken with plastic impression copings or an actual abutment
Abutment "picked up" in a rubber base impression
A soft-tissue model
The laboratory technician prepares the abutment according to prescription - porcelain margin, subgingival
The crown and abutment are delivered, tried in, orientated, contacts checked, tooth position indexed. The crown is then cemented to the abutment out of the mouth and returned to the mouth.
Occlusal view of completed crown, tapped into place with a sharp blow from a mallet and driver.
Buccal view. This picture was taken on the day of insertion. Note the complete lack of gingival irritation.
